In order to be able to access audio files online the computer needs to have a sound card installed and speakers (either internal or external).
Headphones, plugged into the headphone jack may also be used for listening to audio files.
The following guide provides information about listening to, subscribing to or downloading RHSV podcasts.
You don't need to download any files to listen to a RHSV podcast.
Simply click on the 'Play' button of the media player icon on the screen for the item you wish to listen to. The 'Rewind' and 'Fast Forward' buttons will take you to the start and finish of the podcast. You can adjust the volume within the player or from your computer's volume control.
Another way to listen to the podcast online is to click the 'Download (title of the podcast)' link.
Where you see either a 'Download (title of podcast)' link:
Right-click on the link and Save File As/Save Target As (PC)
or
Control-click on the link and Save File As (Mac).
You can choose to save the file to your computer, from where you can transfer it to another device, or directly to a portable media player.
By subscribing to one of our podcasts, all RHSV audio files will be automatically delivered to your computer. These files can then be transferred to another device, such as a portable media player (mp3 player).
You therefore don't have to download each file manually, and as new audio is recorded and added to each series, you will receive the files without having to go back and request them.
To receive the podcast automatically, you need a feed reader (such as Bloglines) or a podcast program such as iTunes and must subscribe to the podcast.
To subscribe, click the link under the 'Subscribe' heading on the relevant audio page, then cut and paste the URL into your podcast or feed-reading software.
The URL for RHSV Podcasts is - http://www.historyvictoria.org.au/subscribe.xml
Latest versions of browsers also allow you to directly subscribe to podcasts and other resources.
In Firefox this can be done via Live Bookmarks option.
in Internet Explorer 7 there is an option in Favourites for feeds.
With both of these versions of these browsers, when you click on the RSS button it will provide you with the option to subscribe to the feed using the browser.
You can, of course opt to use another feed reader such as an Internet based reader like Bloglines.
