The 2014 Conference will be held in two sessions: Friday evening 8 August & Saturday 9 August
The Other Face of War: Victorians and the Home Front
The conference will begin on Friday evening with the opening of the Exhibition ‘The Australian Red Cross in the Great War‘, to be opened by Mrs Elizabeth Chernov, continuing the Australian vice-regal tradition of support for the Red Cross.
This will be followed by the annual Augustus Wolskel Memorial Lecture to be delivered by Dr Bart Ziino entitled:
‘At Home with the War: The Great War in Victorian Private Life’
The Hon Ted Baillieu MLA will open the conference, which presents original research by eleven academics and community researchers. They will speak on themes of ‘the countryside’, ‘war & loyalty’, ‘the patriotic effort’, ‘war & sacrifice’, ‘loss & uncertainty’. Speakers include Dr Michael McKernan author of Victoria and War 1914-1918, launched on 8 August and Mr Ross McMullin, winner of the Prime Minister’s prize for Farewell Dear People.
