Don Garden

President: Assoc Prof Don Garden OAM, FFAHS, FRHSV

Don Garden is also President of the Federation of Australian Historical Societies, a member of the Australian Heritage Council and Vice President of the Kew Historical Society. For many years he taught History and Environmental History at the University of Melbourne, where he is now an honorary Fellow. He has written seventeen books , a mixture of local and regional histories, biography, company history, an environmental history of Australia and the Pacific and a history of El Nino events in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. He is also a member of the Nepean, Rye and Newstead historical societies.

Elisabeth Jackson

Vice President: Elisabeth Jackson

Elisabeth completed a degree in history at the University of Melbourne. Encouraged by Weston Bate, she obtained a position at the La Trobe Library, State Library of Victoria. This led to a career in libraries and she became CEO of Hume Moonee Valley Regional Library and later Library Manager at the Moonee Valley City Council. She has maintained an interest in history and is a member of the Brunswick Community History Group and the Coburg Historical Society. She served as a Councillor with the City of Brunswick and was Mayor in 1990-1991.

Carole Woods
Hon Secretary: Carole Woods FRHSV

Carole has been RHSV hon. secretary for eight years and a member of the Publications Committee since 1989. She currently chairs the Fellowship Committee. Carole has been a judge of the Victorian Community History Awards for sixteen years, and chairs the judges’ panel. In 2014, assisted by Jenny Coates and Australian Red Cross Archivist Moira Drew, Carole curated the exhibition ‘The Australian Red Cross in the Great War’. Her publications include Beechworth: A Titan’s Field, Vision Fugitive and a history of the Fitzroy Library. She also belongs to the Camberwell, Fitzroy and Hotham historical societies.
