Ballan Shire Historical Society Inc aims to collect, record and preserve the history of the people, places and events of the former Shire of Ballan, including Ballan, Gordon, Egerton, Mt Wallace, Fiskville, Blakeville, Colbrook, Morrisons and Ingliston.
Local and family historuies, display of family photos and antiques.
Collecting records from the past including photographs. Guest speakers, help with family research and annual Australia Day celebrations, which include unveiling of heritage plaques recognising the local families who made the district what it is today.
Ballarat Astronomical Society is custodian of the Ballarat Municipal Observatory. BAS provides Friday and Saturday night viewing if the weather is clear. School and other groups can be booked for Monday to Thursday.
The Ballarat Historical Society’s collection is housed in the Gold Museum, Bradshaw Street, Ballarat. It includes over 25,000 photographs, early Trade & Street Directories, the Register of Inmates for the Ballarat Benevolent Society and objects. The collection can be searched online via the Society’s website or accessed by appointment Mon – Friday, 10.00 am – 4.00 pm. Phone 5337 1107 to make an appointment.

To promote and support historical research and publication of same. To hold regular meetings of its members. To arrange displays, the reading and discussion of “papers” as may promote the above objects.
Formed in 1978 the BDGS aims to help people discover their family history, with an emphasis on Ballarat and district sources. The society holds a comprehensive genealogical reference library relating to the usual sources, but specialising in Ballarat. Monthly meetings are held with speakers on family history research topics.

A site specific heritage organisation( Osborne House &grounds) dedicated to the preservation and utilisation of Osborne House as a community and arts preinet for Geelong. Specifically Osborne House and grounds, generally the city of Greater Geelong
The Little River Historical Society Inc was formed in 2003 with the objective of collecting, preserving and promoting the history and heritage of the Little River area. The Society is presently establishing a collection of historical documents and images, which will in future be available to the community for viewing and research. Regular events, displays , and open days are planned.
