Second hand book
On September 12th 1853, a young Scot by the name of James Wright, arrived in Melbourne from Glasgow, to seek his fortunes in the new colony of Victoria. Characteristic of the majority of his compatriots who settled in Victoria, he was determined to succeed. Starting as part owner of a comparatively small timber yard in Flinders Lane, he retired 59 years later as owner of the Caron Timber Yards, South Melbourne, at that time one of the largest and most up-to-date saw and moulding mills, joinery works and timber yards in Victoria.
