Dear Clark: A History of a Pioneering Family by Jean Clark, Malcolm Clark and Linda Melhuish (Second Hand Book)

SECOND HAND BOOK – EX LIBRARY

On April 6th 1872, John Clark and Eliza Leake were married at Mt Moriac near Geelong. John was the third son of Thomas Clark and Jessie Cameron who arrived in the Colony of Port Phillip in 1840, only five years after the start of white settlement. Eliza, her father and brother arrived in Geelong in 1854. John and Eliza became pioneers of the Minyip district, and their children in turn were pioneers elsewhere in Australia. Their descendents now number over 250.

This book tells the story of John and Eliza, of their children, and their children’s children, and of their ancestors, as far back as 1707. It is a story of excitement and adventure in opening up a new land, of sadness and sorrow in the deaths of loved ones, and of the courage and perserverance of the pioneers. Despite drought, deaths and pestilence, the Clark Family struggled on, remembering Eliza’s words “Nil Desperandum — Never Despair”.
