Finding Lanky Manton. By Jim Poulter

Tom Chivers, an early settler in the Middle Yarra region of Melbourne in the 1840s, formed and maintained friendships over many years with the local Kulin people, and these tales were told to his family. One friendship in particular stretched over 80 years, and it had only ended when Coranderrk was closed down in 1924. This person’s name had never been handed down and after decades of searching fruitlessly, Jim Poulter was able to finally discover the identity of this legendary figure. This then is the story of Finding Lanky Manton.
