Description
Jigsaw Puzzle – 1000 pieces
Royal Historical Society of Victoria’s 1st jigsaw puzzle.
Measuring – 715mm x 530 mm
Made locally in Victoria, using one of the popular images from our collection. Taken in the first decade after the end of WW2, this view from Yarra Bank Road on the south bank of the Yarra River looks towards Flinders Street from King Street to William Street and finally Market Street.
The jigsaw is an image from the S-32 RHSV Collection.
George T –
This is the most satisfying jigsaw I have ever done. The composition, with its subtle variety of detail and texture, is superb, and exactly what a puzzler wants, but what I enjoyed most was that as I got into it I developed a real feel for life in Melbourne in 1950, and could almost imagine myself part of a period I never actually experienced.
I hope there will be future jigsaws. Getting the right photo, with that abundance of detail and interest, might not be easy, but there should be something suitable in the archives. The Paris end of Collins Street in the 1950s would be one potential subject.
