Mountain Gold: A history of the Baw Baw and Walhalla country of the Narracan shire, Victoria by John Adams (Second Hand Book)

SECOND HAND BOOK

The shire of Narracan, set in the heart of Victoria’s Gippsland province, has a uniquely rich and diverse history which could fill many volumes. In its centenery year (1978) the Shire Council marked the occasion with the publication of the first part of the official history, So Tall the Trees on the southern districts of the Shire and the townships of Trafalgar, Yarragon and Yallourn North. That book is now followed up in this volume which includes the history of the northern part of the Shire covvering the territory that was once the Shire of Walhalla and is now the Walhalla Riding of the Narracan Shire, and the Tanjil district, one of the most vigorous gold mining districts of Gippsland. While it can only provide brief glimpses of the richness of the district record, this book can, nevertheless, offer absorbing reading as well as provide a valuable reference source on local events and personalities for students and researchers, local residents and visitors to this historic country.
