The works are arranged in chronological order, to reflect the natural progression of styles across the media throughout the century. Paintings which retain their original frames are reproduced in those frames and documented in the captions. The paper support of prints and drawings is not mentioned. Dimensions are given in centimetres, height before width (and depth). Numbers in parentheses after the credit lines are NGV accession numbers.’
