Once upon a Collins Street by Lea, Robyn Ilsa (Second Hand Book)

SECOND HAND BOOK

Andrew Hoyne’s largely photographic volume takes the reader on a journey down Collins street, starting at Spencer Street and broken into chapters block by city block.

Each chapter is opened by two pages of a brief history of that block of the street, followed by pages of 172 mm square, black and white photographs of buildings, features and people of that area, taken by photographer Robyn Ilsa Lea, each featuring a small description no more than two lines.

Both the chapter and page is printed top centre of each page, and a progress track on the outer edge of the page shows how far down Collins Street you have travelled in the book, with street numbers included.

Each chapter is closed with an illustration from Jenny Tyers, a small panel set into a larger black space taking up most of the page.

This work was produced with financial support from ANZ private bank, Georges and Le Meridian at Rialto. A full list of sponsors and supporters are listed at the back of the book, along with a bibliography.

This first edition was limited to four thousand copies.
