The Hentys: An Australian colonial tapestry by Marnie Bassett (Secondhand Book)

SECOND HAND BOOK

Thomas Henty (1775-1839) married Frances Elizabeth Hopkins in 1799, and in the late 1820s the family decided to immigrate to participate in the new settlement of Swan Lake northwest of Perth along the Swan River in Western Auswtralia. In 1829 three of their seven sons (James, Stephen and John) immigrated from England to the Swan Lake area, with the rest of the family to follow within a year. Land was purchased in the Swan Lake area, and also south of Perth at Lechenault Inlet. But by 1831, James Henty had moved to settle at Hobart, Van Diemen’s Land (later Tasmania), while still retaining mercantile interests in Western Australia, and there the rest of the family joined him. Descendants and relatives lived in Tasmania, Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and elsewhere. Includes ancestry and genealogical data in England to ca. 1327 A.D.
