The Royal Melbourne Golf Club: A Centenary History by Joseph Johnson (Secondhand Book)

SECONDHAND BOOK

When a group of Melburnians – mostly Scots, or of Scottish origin – came together in 1891 and passed a formal motion “that it is desirable to form the Melbourne Golf Club” one of Australia’s great sporting and social institutions came into being.

Royal Melbourne has been at the leading edge of Australian golf throughout its first 100 years. The author, Joseph Johnson, shows us both the public side of Royal Melbourne but also takes us behind the scenes to describe, with a light touch, club life among the members, many of whom have been distinguished public figures. His account encompasses the joys, pleasures and frustrations of club life, and also the odd quarrel. The text contains many lively anecdotes which will delight, and perhaps surprise, the present membership.
