“The aim of this book is to preserve what we know of the stories of our service men and women during times of conflict. It talks of families and connections, enlistments, military service, and, sadly, of those who were wounded, taken as prisoners of war or paid the supreme sacrifice. The book provides the reader with the opportunity to trace the military history of family members, friends and district residents from date and place of enlistment through training, overseas postings, theatres of conflict and the occasional bit of mischief. It is perhaps its through and comprehensive account of the service of the hundreds of district men and women from the Boer War through to the more recent Middle Eastern conflicts that makes this book such a significant contribution to historical records. The book will also make fascinating reading for those who do not have a particular interest in matters military in that Wayne talks of district events and provides historical family information.
