Description
SECOND HAND BOOK — EX LIBRARY
Following the treaty made by Batman with aboriginal leaders, including ‘Yan Yan’, a few miles to the South of the present Yan Yean township, explorer John Gellibrand set out towards the Plenty valley to discover the rich lands between the Yarra and Mt. Disappointment.
His report soon attracted pastoralists and doctors, shipwrights and lawyers, and others who quickly occupied the new lands.
Yan Yean: A History captures the early settlement and development of the district and presents a comprehensive account of many of the pioneer families who arrived at that time, and in some instances, who are still working the same land selected in the early 1840’s.
The planning and construction of Melbourne’s first water storage scheme is described in a colourful and interesting style, showing the skill, determination and sheer hard work involved in the construction of the Yan Yean Waterworks.
This book is a tribute to the author and those dedicated citizens who have spent many hours researching, interviewing, discussing, arguing and working to produce this excellent publication.
