SUMMARY:KALEIDOSCOPE
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is biography imagined through the lens of a Kaleidoscope. The viewer is offered fragments of the lives represented here. There is no linear narrative. Each time the kaleidoscope turns\, a different story emerges. There are repeating patterns but different emphases and new ways of seeing\, new reflections\, new refractions. No one story dominates and one story does not fit all. \nin 2021\, during Women’s History Month we launched the RHSV Women’s Biographical Dictionary\, an online resource which builds profiles of women who have been involved in the RHSV over its 113 year history. This project is the work of Dr Cheryl Griffin and from this online resource\, Cheryl has curated Kaleidoscope\, launched in March 2022 by Judi Maddigan\, which looks at the lives of 50 of those important women. \nCURATOR: DR CHERYL GRIFFIN\nEXHIBITION DESIGNER: KATRIN STROHL\nEXHIBITION PRODUCTION: DR DAVID THOMPSON & HELEN STITT\nThe exhibition is opened Monday – Friday (excluding public holidays) from 9am-5pm and entry is free-of-charge.

DESCRIPTION:Event presented by the Fellows’ Group of the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne \nSocial Trust is an important glue binding societies together.  For just one example\, countries with high trust levels had significantly better results in tackling Covid.  And trust has also been a powerful driver of economic development.  But there is another side – high levels of trust also create opportunities for the shyster\, those benefiting from spreading mistrust. \nIn this wide-ranging talk\, Tony Ward discusses the nature of social trust.  He also argues that some\, especially economic\, developments are now working to diminish trust. \nSpeaker: Tony Ward \nTony has been an Honorary Fellow in History at the University of Melbourne since 2011\, writing two books and numerous well-received articles\, both in journals and on The Conversation website.  He has had a varied work career\, in academia\, public service\, and running a private consultancy firm.  Tony has a Ph.D in economic history from Monash. \nSHAPS History Fellows’ Group \nThis presentation is part of the monthly seminar series organised by the Fellows’ Group of the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne.  There is a $10 charge for attendance\, which includes refreshments.  Any surpluses contribute to a Prize Fund which supports an annual prize for history students. \nPlease note that\, on booking\, you will automatically be sent a confirmation email – please check your Junk or Spam mail folder if it is not immediately apparent in your in-box.
