SUMMARY:KALEIDOSCOPE
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is biography imagined through the lens of a Kaleidoscope. The viewer is offered fragments of the lives represented here. There is no linear narrative. Each time the kaleidoscope turns\, a different story emerges. There are repeating patterns but different emphases and new ways of seeing\, new reflections\, new refractions. No one story dominates and one story does not fit all. \nin 2021\, during Women’s History Month we launched the RHSV Women’s Biographical Dictionary\, an online resource which builds profiles of women who have been involved in the RHSV over its 113 year history. This project is the work of Dr Cheryl Griffin and from this online resource\, Cheryl has curated Kaleidoscope\, launched in March 2022 by Judi Maddigan\, which looks at the lives of 50 of those important women. \nCURATOR: DR CHERYL GRIFFIN\nEXHIBITION DESIGNER: KATRIN STROHL\nEXHIBITION PRODUCTION: DR DAVID THOMPSON & HELEN STITT\nThe exhibition is opened Monday – Friday (excluding public holidays) from 9am-5pm and entry is free-of-charge.

SUMMARY:Rescheduled: GSV members Flagstaff Gardens History Tour and Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Genealogical Society of Victoria members-only Flagstaff Gardens History Tour and Lunch. This event was originally planned for Thursday 22nd of September but\, when that day became the National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II\, the event was rescheduled for Friday 18th of November.\nThe Genealogical Society of Victoria is organising a guided walking tour of historic Flagstaff gardens. The walk will begin and end at the RHSV’s home in the Drill Hall\, opposite Flagstaff Gardens at 239 A’Beckett Street\, Melbourne. \nThe walk commences at 10:30am\, followed by lunch on your return\, approx 12noon until 1pm. The walk will take place whatever the weather so please dress appropriately (comfortable shoes\, wet weather gear if necessary\, some water etc). The walk takes place on graded walking paths and is not strenuous or long but you will be walking to the top of the hill in the gardens and you will be on your feet for a little over an hour. \nThe walking tour will climb Flagstaff Hill to consider its place in Melbourne’s topography and pre-European history as well as its early role as a burial ground\, flagstaff signalling station and magnetic and meteorological observatory. An absolute “must do” walk for understanding the history and character of Melbourne city. \nGSV members are more than welcome to spend the day at the RHSV using the GSV collection or the RHSV collection (if you are interested in doing research we suggest that you contact Jillian Hiscock\, our Collections Manager on collections@historyvictoria.org.au beforehand so that she can have your material ready for you). \nGSV members will also be able to enjoy the current free exhibition\, Kaleidoscope\, which celebrates the splendid women who have helped shape the RHSV over its long 113 year history. \nPlease record any dietary restrictions when you book your tickets. \nPlease contact our office if you have any questions: office@historyvictoria.org.au or 03 9326 9288
