SUMMARY:KALEIDOSCOPE
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is biography imagined through the lens of a Kaleidoscope. The viewer is offered fragments of the lives represented here. There is no linear narrative. Each time the kaleidoscope turns\, a different story emerges. There are repeating patterns but different emphases and new ways of seeing\, new reflections\, new refractions. No one story dominates and one story does not fit all. \nin 2021\, during Women’s History Month we launched the RHSV Women’s Biographical Dictionary\, an online resource which builds profiles of women who have been involved in the RHSV over its 113 year history. This project is the work of Dr Cheryl Griffin and from this online resource\, Cheryl has curated Kaleidoscope\, launched in March 2022 by Judi Maddigan\, which looks at the lives of 50 of those important women. \nCURATOR: DR CHERYL GRIFFIN\nEXHIBITION DESIGNER: KATRIN STROHL\nEXHIBITION PRODUCTION: DR DAVID THOMPSON & HELEN STITT\nThe exhibition is opened Monday – Friday (excluding public holidays) from 9am-5pm and entry is free-of-charge.

SUMMARY:Walking Tour of Westgate Park with Lyn Allison
DESCRIPTION:Walking Tour of Westgate Park with Lyn Allison \nSunday 20th November 10.00 am to 12.00 pm \nOrganised by Port Melbourne Historical and Preservation Society Inc \nDo join our walking tour of Westgate Park with Lyn Allison. The community bus will leave from the Port Melbourne Town Hall at 9.30 am and will return at 12.30 pm.  If you would prefer to meet us at the main carpark at the entrance to the park at 10.00 am.  BYO water\, hat\, waterproof gear if needed. \nWhether you are taking the community bus\, or meeting at the Park\, please let George Tsingos know to help the outing run smoothly \nsecretary@pmhps.org.au \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWestgate Park is a green oasis located in the heart of industrial Melbourne. The park is perhaps best known for its salt lake which turns pink seasonally in response to high salt levels\, high temperatures\, increased sunlight and lack of rainfall. Visit during the hotter weather to see the reddish algae growing in the salt crust. The lake returns to its normal colour as the weather cools and rainfall increases. \nThe shared paths in Westgate Park are popular with cyclists\, joggers and walkers\, and connect to some significant trail networks of Melbourne\, including the 53km Bay Trail. The trail starts in Westgate Park at the Yarra River and heads all the way to Frankston\, along the eastern edge of Port Phillip Bay\, and is about 2.5 hours by bike\, each way. Travel via the bicycle punt service across the Yarra River (westgatepunt.com for timetable) to access Scienceworks and the Williamstown Foreshore Trail (6km\, 23 minutes one way). \nTake the unsealed trails in Westgate Park that wind past lakes and wetlands to see the park’s plants and animals\, as well as the Earth Series Sculptures. These artworks by Lyn Moore are made from natural materials and add to the unique landscape and character of Westgate Park. Pack a picnic or make use of the free shared electric barbecue facility and come and explore this beautiful environment at the city’s doorstep. \nWestgate Park forms a sanctuary for a variety of bird species from around the world. Watch the lake for wading birds such as stilts\, ibis and spoonbills feeding on the shores\, and swimmers and divers including ducks\, gulls\, coots\, pelicans\, swans and moorhens.
