About this objectGlass slide that depicts the newly built settlement of Melbourne. The buildings are widely spread out and shown in the background. There are horse-drawn carriages and livestock along King Street and William Street. A gathering of people, such as miners, Chinese, Aboriginal Australians and Europeans are viewing Melbourne from the Flagstaff Gardens in the foreground. On Flagstaff Hill is an observatory, weather monitoring equipment. Included is the original Exhibition Building on William Street, and Russell's Tea rooms on King Street.
One of many glass slides purchased from retailers or specifically made for illustrated lectures given by Isaac Selby between c. 1930 and c. 1955 to raise money for the Old Pioneers Memorial Fund.
