This aircraft entered service with Pan American in 1945. On 17 March 1947 "Clipper Kit Carson" arrived in Sydney from San Francisco to inaugurate Pan American's first service to Australia.
The aircraft was sold to Japan Airlines in 1958, then bought by Ansett-ANA in 1965, and appeared on the Australia register as VH-INM. It was converted to an ATL-98A Carvair freighter aircraft in 1968 and was sold by Ansett-ANA in 1974. It was used by several overseas operators and as of 2005 was located in South Africa.
