About this objectLooking west from the Yarra bank over the river and toward a number of houses and businesses in Victoria Street, Richmond and Collingwood. There is a tram in the distance and a man in the river bank in the foreground.
On the north side (Collingwood) from the river to Walmer Street : Harry Walker, soap and candle works; James Reid; Peter Nettleton, wool merchant; John Galloway, George Lynch and H. W. Stead. Now there is a footbridge across the river at Walmer Street to Kew.
On the north side and over the Yarra, are paddocks which may have belonged to William Klaus or August Shears who lived in Raven Street, Kew.
On the south side (Richmond) there were Chinese gardens between the river and Burnley Street. In 1888 on Burnley street there were tramway sheds and John C. Cole had a nursery here. [source : Sands & MacDougall directory)
