Name/TitleGovernment Offices, Treasury Place, Melbourne, c. 1900
About this objectThe large building in this photograph was completed in 1876, architect Michael Egan, in the Renaissance Revival style. The grand Doric columned main entrance with ornate sculptured Royal Arms above, can be just seen at the far right of the photograph. The image was taken from the south-west, from the edge of Treasury Gardens. A very similar photograph can be taken today.
This building continues to be used as government offices, being part of the Treasury Place precinct (#2), now housing the state government department of education and training.
One of the many glass slides purchased from retailers or specifically made for illustrated lectures given by Isaac Selby between c. 1930 and c. 1955 to raise money for the Old Pioneers Memorial Fund. One of the labels stuck on the slide says: Australian Lecture Copyright.
