Name/TitleUniversity of Melbourne: Ormond College, c. 1900
About this objectThis photograph of the main front wing and north-east (Victoria) wing of Ormond College, located on the northern end of the University of Melbourne campus, has been taken from the north within the college grounds.
The college is named after a very generous benefactor, Francis Ormond, a Western District farmer, parliamentarian and philanthropist, who believed in the transformative power of education.
The architects Reed and Barnes designed the front (1881), south-west (1885) and Victoria (1888-9) wings, in the high Victorian Gothic style. The building was constructed using sandstone and cream brick.
