Portrait of pastoralist and politician William Ross (1827-1900)
William Ross was born in Madras Presidency India in 1827 to Scottish parents. They all arrived in NSW in 1843. Ross became a pastoralist in the Western District of Victoria taking up the property The Gums. He was a member of the Mt Rouse Shire Council on and off from 1866 and also elected as a member of the Legislative Council of Victoria in 1878.
William Ross died in a shooting accident at his property in 1900.
