On the heritage register no. H0528
Built by Francis Clark in the early 1840s and now considered to be Melbourne’s oldest licenced public house and Fitzroy’s oldest surviving building. It is now part of the St Vincent’s Hospital complex.
It operated as a hotel from 1843 to 1920 when it was one of the 27 Melbourne hotels forced to close by the Licensing Reduction Board. It later became a hostel
