About this objectView across the street looking towards Geelong Railway Station. Horse drawn carriage and people gathering alongside the station.
It opened on 1 November 1856, and built to replace the original station which was constructed in 1854. The iron frame train hall was erected in 1892.
Together with Ballarat, it is one of only two stations in Victoria to have a 19th-century train shed, and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
The building has been identified as the "St Arnaud Style" [source : A. Ward 'Victoria's railways : an architectural survey"]
