Name/TitleHall of Commerce, Collins Street, c. 1855
About this objectEngraving of a drawing by S. T. Gill of a group of buildings located on Collins Street West between Elizabeth and Queen streets. The large three-storey brick building at number 48, the Commerce Hall, was where some early Melbourne's financial and commercial businesses were housed, including the Melbourne Brokers Association which became the first Australian stock exchange.
A small two-storey building to the left of the Commerce Hall is the Imperial Hotel, and next to that is the business of James J. Blundell & Co., the publishers of this print which was included in "Sketches of Victoria".
One of the many glass slides purchased from retailers or specifically made for illustrated lectures given by Isaac Selby between c. 1930 and c. 1955 to raise money for the Old Pioneers Memorial Fund.
