About this objectA six page stream of consciousness recounted by Benjamin Tapner - an early settler of Victoria. The autobiography begins on September 15th 1848 and goes until 1854. Tapner recounts leaving England on the "Lysander" for Port Phillip (arriving 11 January 1849), ship strikes, going to Geelong, ship fires, the St Peter's Church, returning to England for a short time and then coming back to Port Phillip (through Port Adelaide), celebrations surrounding the opening of the second Princes Bridge, travel to Kangaroo Ground, the Black Thursday fires, the beggining of the gold rush, the vigilante burning of Bently's Hotel, and the Eureka Riots.
