Morris of Rutherglen: A Celebration of 130 Years 1859-1989 by David Dunstan (Secondhand Book)

SECONDHAND BOOK

From the Introduction:

“Anyone who knows even a little about Australian wine has heard of Rutherglen in north-eastern Victoria. This small country town is the centre of one of Australia’s best known wine-producing areas. The fortified wines of the district – especially the Liqueur Muscat and Tokay – are widely regarded as being among the most distinctive of all Australian wines, many would say the greatest. Rutherglen is also famous for full-flavoured red wines – wines ‘fit for heroes’ – and increasingly for the quality of its sweet and dry table wines.

North-east Victoria can boast many fine winemakers but none have a better claim than Morris of Rutherglen as producers of the traditional styles. Winemaker ‘Mick’ Morris is almost as well known as the district’s wines. The Mia Mia Winery where he lives and works is a shrine for those ever increasing numbers of enthusiasts who are fascinated to know more about how wine of this type and quality is made. It is located outside the town, some 15km just east of Rutherglen on the rich stretch of soil known as Brown’s Plains.”
