Description
Discoveries about Port Fairy’s past await locals and visitors alike in this second volume of port Fairy Walkabout.
Although Port Fairy is blessed with having many historic buildings still intact, it is the people who once occupied these premises, who are a source of interest for author, Pam Marriott.
In Volume 2, the walk embraces an area on the north side Bank Street, at the intersection of James Street. After the instructor’s cottage and Orderly Room turn left at the Victoria Hotel into James Street, and turn right at Regent to Church Street and left at Barclay. Along the way you will find out more detailed information relating to: the Orderly Room/Drill Hall, the Albion Hotel (now known as the Victoria Hotel), Dr Braim’s school, now a private residence, the Wesleyan Church (today known as the Uniting Church) and finally Nathaniel Billing’s Gothic-inspired church of St John’s, in Barclay Street. The Walk is less than one kilometer in length. A map is provided to guide your way.
Port Fairy has several cafes, restaurants, and hotels where you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat. Enjoy your day exploring Port Fairy’s past.
