Associate Fellows

Nominations for Associate Fellowships

The RHSV approved this new award in 2023. Closing date for 2024 is 5pm (AEDT) 28 March 2024 and any Associate Fellowships will be elected at the RHSV AGM on Tuesday 28 May 2024.

Criteria

The RHSV has provided for the election of up to three Associate Fellows of the Society each year. An Associate Fellow shall be a member of ten years’ standing of an RHSV affiliated society who has rendered outstanding service to the member society and to the Australian history movement with special reference to the history of Victoria, and who is elected by the RHSV at an Annual General Meeting of the Society. No more than one member of an affiliated society shall be elected each year.

Any member of the RHSV or an affiliated society shall have the right to nominate a member of an affiliated society for election as an Associate Fellow. Nominations shall be lodged not less than two months prior to the Annual General meeting of the RHSV.

The Council of the RHSV has published the following criteria which will normally guide Council in recommending nominees for Associate Fellowships. Although the rules limit the number of Fellowships to three a year, there is no obligation on Council to recommend any member if none is regarded as meeting the criteria. Associate Fellowships are not intended to recognise normal long and faithful service to a member Society. Service should extend far beyond one historical society to a region and could in part be through networks of RHSV member societies. Associate Fellows should have made a distinguished contribution to the Australian history movement with special reference to Victoria such as through a body of significant publications or curation of exhibitions. They should have some recognisable academic, administrative or leadership skills which have been devoted to the cause of history in Victoria.

There is no specific application form however, in making a nomination, the nominator should submit no more than 500 words outlining the contribution and service of the nominee as outlined above. The nominator should also provide their contact details as the nominator is the person contacted for all correspondence regarding the nomination. Nominations should be emailed or posted to the Executive Officer, Rosemary Cameron on executive.officer@historyvictoria.org.au

The Council shall consider such recommendations and shall then submit to the next Annual General Meeting for election the recommended nominees as it thinks fit provided that there shall be no more than three (3) nominations submitted to election in any one year.
