GS-G-22; Pioneers' Memorial, Flagstaff Gardens, Melbourne, c. 1920; A photograph of a tall, thin, sandstone obelisk in the Gothic style mounted on a three stepped ivy-covered plinth. Erected by Samuel Craven in 1871, the memorial was dedicated to the six early pioneers whose remains were buried nearby. The pointed top has since disappeared. Samuel Craven was a respected stonemason who tendered to build the monument for the sum of £189 10s.
