Mentions the group's first wireless performance in 1924 from 3LO in Melbourne. (Paper delivered as RHSV lecture, 9.09.1986; MS 000956),"Music in the Cabbbage Garden" A 26 chapter history of music in Victoria from European settlement to 1975, but concentrating on the history of the various Victorian Liedertafels ie Melbourne Liedertafel, Royal Metropolitan Liedertafel, Royal Victorian Liedertafel from 1868. The author lists individual artists as well as musical societies of all sorts, Philharmonic, Operatic, Choral. In addition he notes musical entertainment in theatres, pubs, on bay ferries and in private homes. George, a highly skilled in carpentry and drawing, made two voyages to Australia, firstly from 1852-54 with his brother, cousin and school friends after hearing about the goldrush; and secondly in 1870 with his second wife and three children, resulting in permanent residency in Victoria. Terri G Allen details the life and culture of the Wotjobaluk people of Kulin nation and the violent disruption brought about by the arrival of pioneer settlers. A two page narrative on the death of Samuel Moore, a well-known Aboriginal man is attached. MS 003280 (Box 120-7); Traralgon local history; Mackay, Richard, 1834-1926.; Brief history of Traralgon and its development as a principal town of South Gippsland from its beginnings in 1839. The first page is a covering letter from the author to Councilor Pettit, Shire President. The author suggests his initial research started with the names listed in the Education Gazette of 19 September 1918. Includes reference to the original landscape, Aboriginal clans, the Kurnai and chief Merriman, the small number of Aboriginal people left and their movements through the area. The author includes physical descriptions of Chief Merriman, from a meeting with him in 1862, and another of King Billy from a meeting and visit to a circus at Westernport in 1876. There is mention of what the author describes as the last corroboree at Maffra. The history then covers Rosedale squatting runs adjoining Traralgon, the early pioneers who followed Angus McMillan, the legal and Parliamentary chaos re land laws, the mines, gold and mineral discoveries in the Walhalla area and general description of the development of the township of Traralgon. Born at Kingston near Ballarat, and died at his residence in Brunswick Street, North Fitzroy in 1926. He was aged 55. He was a doctor, for some time resident surgeon at the Creswick Hospital. In 1900 he returned to Melbourne and established the practice in North Fitzroy in the early 1900's. He was also a keen numismatist, who loaned early paper money to the Public State Library. He was an Honorary Doctor at the Fitzroy cricket and football clubs. Best known as a pastoralist, he ran the Upper Werribee Run 'Morockdong' from 1842. He later bought Morton's Plains in the Mallee from William Lockhart Morton and Ballanee from John von Stieglitz. He was amongst the first to introduce fox hounds to the Port Phillip District. F. Chuck; Montage of oval shaped portraits of over 700 "explorers and early colonists of Victoria" collected together in a gold-edged shield shape. All the portraits are numbered. There are eight portraits that are larger than the others as following: 1- Edward Henty, 60- Sir Redmond Barry, 80- Mr. Justice Williams, 82- R. W. Pohlman (Judge), 87- Sir W. Stawell, 321- Sir Francis Murphy, 677- Charles J. La Trobe, 678- Right Rev. C. Perry. The remaining portraits are of similar size, but there are small ones around the edge, and even smaller portraits squeezed into the gaps. T. F. Chuck, the compiler and producer of this labour intensive work, also produced a key to the numbered portraits in a pamphlet form costing one shilling (The National Library of Australia, Trove). Henderson of the Church of England on Tyers Street, Tarraville. This wooden rectangular timber Victorian Carpenter Gothic was built in 1856 to a design by J. H. W. Pettit and George Hastings. It was reputedly the first church in Gippsland and is a rare surviving example of drop slab construction, with the building being constructed without the use of nails. Horatio Jones house is a house in Tecoma, Victoria built in or around 1920-1926 by Australian inventor, engineer and recluse Horatio Thomas Jones. The two-storied house is constructed of flattened four-gallon kerosene tins using hand-made tools. Jones was briefly engaged to Caroline Hearst, but was invalided in the Battle of Gallipoli and broke off his engagement upon returning home. In 1920 he purchased land in the Dandenong ranges and built the home for himself and his two sisters Christina and Annie. He never married. The home is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register and is described as a "substantially intact and rare example of shanty construction of the early twentieth century." The CD contains further details." -- Container label; Library - AudiovisualGS-ICD-29; The road through Stony Rises, Pirron Yallock; Law, Robert, 1870-1930.; Stony Rises are an area of rocky ground formed on geologically recent lava flows around Mount Porndon, extending north to form the southern and southwestern shoreline of Lake Corangamite. Pirron Yallock is on the Princes Highway 15 km west of Colac in western Victoria. The image shows a long winding road cutting through low shrubbery. Advancing towards the camera is a one horse drawn carriage with two men sitting atop of it. Further down the road at the first bend, another man can be seen standing next to a bicycle. The landscape is listed in the Victorian Heritage Register. In that role he gathered voluminous notes on the histories of South Australian towns and geographical features, and this title is the result o that work. Some of the material is reprinted form from 'The Register,' 'The Adelaide Observer,' and 'The Evening Journal.'' The RHSV copy has three letters pasted into the book, one from A. C. MacDonald re the phrase Woke Wyne, and 2 from W. A. Magarey (a South Australian solicitor).
