The grand Doric columned main entrance with ornate sculptured Royal Arms above, can be just seen at the far right of the photograph. The image was taken from the south-west, from the edge of Treasury Gardens. A very similar photograph can be taken today. This building continues to be used as government offices, being part of the Treasury Place precinct (#2), now housing the state government department of education and training. One of the many glass slides purchased from retailers or specifically made for illustrated lectures given by Isaac Selby between c. 1930 and c. 1955 to raise money for the Old Pioneers Memorial Fund. One of the labels stuck on the slide says: Australian Lecture Copyright. The architects, Crouch and Wilson (1857-1916), designed the school in the grand style that was popular in Marvellous Melbourne at the time. Ivy has been allowed to grow abundantly over the building in the intervening years. It is odd that it is not pupils or staff that are featured in front of the school, but two workmen. One with a lawn mower, and the other up a ladder cleaning windows or cutting back the encroaching ivy.
